Uganda Clean Cooking Alliance

The Uganda Clean Cooking Alliance distributes fuel-efficient cookstoves to households in Western Uganda where 95% of cooking is done on three-stone open fires. Each improved stove reduces fuelwood consumption by 55%, saving families an average of 2.5 tonnes of wood per year. Health impacts are substantial — indoor air pollution from cooking fires kills an estimated 20,000 Ugandans annually.

The project has distributed 85,000 stoves to date, directly benefiting over 400,000 people. Local manufacturing of the stoves creates employment for 120 artisans, 65% of whom are women. Monitoring follows Gold Standard's metered and verified methodology with annual kitchen performance tests.
