Regulatory Timeline
Key compliance and market-integrity milestones.
First ICVCM CCP labels approved
The Integrity Council approved its first seven Core Carbon Principles methodologies, for landfill gas and ozone-depleting-substance destruction (ACR, Climate Action Reserve, and the CDM methodologies ACM0001 and AMS-III.G that Verra and Gold Standard also use), making about 27 million credits eligible for the label. Assessments of further categories continue.
EU CBAM definitive period begins
Only authorised CBAM declarants may import CBAM goods: cement, iron and steel, aluminium and fertilisers above the 50-tonne annual de minimis, and electricity and hydrogen in any quantity. Certificate sales open 1 February 2027; the first annual declaration, covering 2026 imports, is due 30 September 2027. Carbon credits cannot be surrendered against CBAM.
UAE NRCC adjustment period ended
End of the Climate Change Law's one-year adjustment period, not a filing deadline. Entities at or above 500,000 tCO₂e a year must be on the National Register for Carbon Credits; fines under Federal Decree-Law No. 11/2024 run from AED 50,000 to AED 2,000,000 per violation.
CORSIA second phase begins
Participation becomes mandatory for all but exempted States. Airlines offset growth above 85% of 2019 emissions with ICAO-eligible, host-country-authorised units; units for the 2024–2026 period must be cancelled by 31 January 2028.
VCMI Claims Code of Practice
Voluntary integrity framework for companies making net-zero or carbon-neutral claims; it expects high-integrity (CCP-labelled) credits. A market norm, not a regulatory deadline.
SBTi Beyond Value Chain Mitigation guidance
Guidance encouraging companies with validated targets to finance mitigation beyond their value chains, including through high-integrity credits. Not a compliance requirement.
Compliance Guides
