Atlantic Forest Restoration Brazil

The Atlantic Forest Restoration project restores 4,500 hectares of one of Earth's most biodiverse and threatened ecosystems. The Atlantic Forest originally covered 1.3 million km² along Brazil's coast but has been reduced to 12% of its original extent. This project plants over 200 native tree species using the nucleation technique — creating forest "islands" that expand naturally and accelerate succession.

The restored areas protect 14 endemic primate species and critical watershed areas that supply São Paulo's metropolitan water system. The project employs 180 local community members in nursery operations and planting activities.
